One can easily remove the shadow of the icons on the desktop. Follow these steps:
1) start-> control panel-> system
2) click on advance tab and then click on setting under performance.
3) tick the checkbox with "use drop shadow for icon on desktop".1) start-> control panel-> system
2) click on advance tab and then click on setting under performance.
you will see that your desktop icon become transparent.
